Breaking Free With Clinical Hypnosis
Phobias are invasive irrational fears that can grip us without warning.
They limit our movements, reduce our opportunities for shared enjoyment and cause untold distress. Clinical hypnosis is a recognised therapeutic treatment for banishing them in just a few sessions. We only have two fears at birth; the fear of falling and the fear of loud noises. All other fears are acquired through our life experiences or by observation.
But phobias are entrenched fears. Somehow they have become linked with our sense of survival and produce deep anxiety responses designed to keep us safe. The trigger is buried deep in the subconscious mind to create an automatic response and is located within the primitive brain that defines logic. This means that simply rationalising that the plane is safe and taking you away on a well-deserved holiday will not remove your phobia.
Remedial Massage
What is Remedial Massage?
Remedial massage is a type of complementary medicine which focuses on assessing and treating muscles that are damaged, tense, impaired, knotted or immobile. It is effective against a number of problems affecting the muscles, bones, fascia, ligaments and tendons.
The main purpose of remedial massage is to identify the underlying cause of a musculoskeletal condition and then specifically work on the affected area to achieve a significant change. The change includes reduced pain, improved mobility, less tension, or a combination of these. Remedial massage can either be deep or shallow, gentle or strong, depending on the problem to be addressed.
Restorative Stretch
Where massage and gentle yoga inspired poses fuse to encourage you to reconnect body and mind.
Restorative Stretch is where massage and gentle supported poses encourage you to reconnect body and mind. It is a fully clothed treatment where you will use props such as bolsters, blankets, and blocks to hold a restorative pose for a longer length of time. Once your comfortable areas of the body are massaged and you will be encouraged to use your breath as your body and mind relax and surrender to the fully supported pose allowing for a gentle stretch.
This is time where you will become mindful, and feel your body and mind let go of stress, tension, and racing thoughts.
To finish there will be a short meditation and time to set your intention for the coming week. Restorative Stretch is a 1-hour treatment and is not available for health fund rebate.

Are you coping with the sudden death of a loved one:?
The loss of a loved one can be devastating, turning a person’s world upside down and leaving them reeling in shock, and when it’s unexpected, it can be even harder to understand and overcome.
The journey to recovery is unique for every person and it’s important that a person does what’s right for them when faced with sudden loss. There is no perfect or predictable way to grieve, the impact upon the person’s friends and family can be absolutely devastating.
Some people feel absolutely numb with shock upon hearing the news, like they simply can’t believe it’s real and some people feel waves of grief, anger or a terrible sense of guilt about whether there was something they could have done to prevent it, maybe feeling angry about what happened, or overwhelmed by everything that needs to be dealt with now that they are gone.
Whats new at Virginia Dyson Remedial Massage
Lomi Lomi Hawaiian Massage - Temple Style
Hawaiian Lomi Lomi Massage is an ancient form of massage handed down and practised for hundreds of year by the Kahuna,(master practitioners), and the Kapuna, (elders). It awakens a very deep connection to body, mind and spirit which creates a space for healing, self-love, and a letting go.
Lomi Lomi Temple Style incorporates long, rhythmic, and flowing strokes along the body using hands and forearms in a dance like movement totally nurturing the body and mind, enabling you to relax, give in and simply be in the moment. The breath is used to maintain focus and energy flow, and traditionally Lomi Lomi is give with intention and prayer to facilitate balance and harmony. Slowly layers of emotional memory and stored tension may be removed and mana, (life force), is able to vibrate through the body. To work along the whole body there is minimal draping, traditionally the person receiving Lomi Lomi would not have any clothing on, but you will be required to wear underpants and there will be draping of the chest area. You will still be receiving a lovely flowing massage from head to toe, with underbody work.
The difference between a remedial massage and Lomi Lomi are the traditions woven into the massage, particularly Aloha, (love), which not only releases physical tension but also emotional, mental and spiritual blockages.
This is a 1 1/2-hour therapeutic treatment and not usually available for health fund rebate.

Self-Acceptance – Stop Beating Yourself Up
For change to occur within us, self-acceptance is considered the prerequisite. It can be achieved by stopping criticizing and beating ourselves up. That is, tolerating and accepting of our imperfections.
So what is Self-Acceptance?
- the awareness of one's strengths and weaknesses,
- the realistic (yet subjective) appraisal of one's talents, capabilities, and general worth, and,
- feelings of satisfaction with one's self despite deficiencies and regardless of past behaviours and choices.
Self-acceptance involves self-understanding, a realistic, albeit subjective, awareness of one's strengths and weaknesses. It results in an individual's feeling about oneself that they are of "unique worth".
Why Massage?
Through the centuries massage has been used, and it has been shown to have many benefits for body and mind, it is still used today for the very same reasons. Massage is used to heal and to nurture. It improves circulation, immune function, muscle tone, mental and physical health. Massage can be a part of your health maintenance program, a time to nurture yourself, time out to relax and allow the body to heal. It reconnects Mind and Body.
There are many studies to show that massage helps to reduce stress, anxiety, depression, relief of digestive disorders, nerve pain, headache, chronic pain and insomnia to name a few. I also offer Manual Lymphatic Drainage, which uses specific techniques to help relieve inflammation, help the body to detox, relax, reduce chronic pain, inflammation and reduce healing time post-surgery or injury. It can be part of a decongestive therapy plan for Lymphoedema or Lipodema.
A review study on massage found that levels of the stress hormone cortisol dropped 31% following a massage while levels of feel-good hormones like dopamine and serotonin increased roughly 30%. That’s why it feels so good and you feel relaxed after a treatment. In fact, pain reduction—along with depression relief—is one of the benefits that research has most consistently linked to massage, says Tiffany Field, director of the Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami.
“Pressure receptors under the skin, when stimulated, increase vagal activity,” she says, referring to the vagus nerve, a major component of the human nervous system that plays a role in autonomic functions like heart rate, breathing and digestion.Increased activity in the vagus nerve could have—among other benefits—a meditation-like calming effect, which would explain the drop in cortisol and other stress-related symptoms.
So next time your having a massage be mindful of the behind the scenes work of the body to help you feel relaxed, for tension to be eased, where healing can take place.
You can book online at www.dysonmassage.com.au or phone Geelong Bodi & Mind on 5223 2370. I work Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings.
I look forward to meeting and treating you to help you be the best version of you.

Do you or someone you know have a Fear of Flying?
For many people there are common characteristics that contribute to a fear of flying.
These thoughts and feelings may have become a learned pattern through a previous flight which may have been turbulent or that for some reason was found particularly scary at the time or from watching a movie or TV program or hearing of someone else’s “story”, or perhaps it may be from having an active imagination and having frightened invasive thoughts.
It is well known that there are many people who fear flying and there are also, increasingly, millions of people who used to fear it, however, no longer do. You can be one of them!
People who find it difficult to relax on planes, can also impact on others. There may be a build- up of anxiety over days or even weeks before a flight, constantly thinking about feeling fearful, and thus associating fear in the mind with flying. This can impact on others as the person tends to become fatigued, irritable and often extremely anxious/short fused to name just a few of the effects that may be experienced.
Are neck pain and headache-related?
Did you ever think that your neck might be the cause of your headaches? The constant brain sensitization from the involved neck area can be directly involved in your migraines!
Research has identified that the trigeminocervical complex in the brainstem is the source of irritation (sensitization) in migraine and headaches. Regardless of the type of headache, that specific area where the input from the trigeminal nerve and three upper cervical nerves is received is constantly irritated.
Many triggers can spike your migraine, but the neck component is the strongest source of central sensitization.
On the assessment, we can determine if your neck is involved and we can effectively treat it with Watson Headache® Approach Method.
Headache® Approach is an advanced Examination and Treatment of the Upper Neck for those Experiencing Headaches and Migraine.
How can we help?
- 80% of patients see an improvement with the Watson Headache® Approach Method.
- Provide an alternative diagnosis for your migraine or headache.
- We can precisely identify the vertebral segment that is responsible for your symptoms.
- Provide a scientific explanation for the causes of your migraine or headache (central sensitization).
- There is no neck cracking involved in your treatment.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage - what is it?
Most of us aren’t aware of the role of the lymphatic system. It works with the immune system, helps to transport, absorb and eliminate toxins, bacteria, metabolic waste and fluid. It also produces lymphocytes which are important for our immunity.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a deeply relaxing treatment. It’s very light as 80% of the lymphatic system lies just below the skin. MLD stimulates fluid circulation and elimination, it also stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system which allows for the relaxation response which in turn reduces pain and allows for healing. It can be given pre or post surgery to aid with healing, reduces inflammation, helps to relieve sinusitis and hay fever symptoms, relieves pain associated with fibromyalgia and is part of decongestive therapy treatment for lymphoedema and liposuction recovery when directed by your specialist.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a very light technique, it’s not a muscular massage, the light movement aids the fluid (lymph), to move through the lymphatic channels. It travels through the body to the lymph nodes to be cleansed and eventually is returned to the circulatory system via the subclavian veins.
People often ask how often should I receive this treatment, but each person is different and it depends on why you’re having it. If you’re having a treatment for general well being then I would recommend every season to give your immune system a boost and to deal with seasonal issues like hay fever. You can now book online at www.dysonmassage.com.au or phone 52232370.
